A note on Peale's “painter's quadrant": I found an advertisement in the 5/15/1805 issue of the Massachusetts Spy for "Polygraphic Art": a Mr. Weaver living on Broadway in NYC could multiply paintings through chemical and mechanical processes he called the "polygraph"...an aside to look into?
