The reversal is a point at which a medium reaches maximum efficiency and thereby changes the external conditions it was meant to address, forcing itself into obsolescence. It is inextricably related to the Break Boundary which posits an external transformation in the system a medium was forced to address which thereby "breaks" the system itself.

The reversal is an important critical tool when establishing the factors that contribute to a given medium's obsolescence, whether in the past, with a dead medium, or in the future, with our contemporary medium. It is therefore important to ask: Could the issue this medium addresses be solved if this medium reached a point of peak performance?
